A Message From Your President

Welcome to the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils, Inc (ARSC) web site. Information about the organization and our members, as well as providing guidance to our customers is the objective of this site.  Please let us know if we were successful or unsuccessful.  Customer service is our prime objective and your input is critical.

As president of the association, for 2008, I want to assure our members and the customers they serve that ARSC will continue to work toward meeting our basic objective and mission. “To provide consistent and cost effective reciprocal safety education that conforms to regulatory standards and industry accepted best practices.”

ARSC was created by individual Safety Councils across the Gulf Coast and has grown to include member Councils across the nation.  The direct customers of ARSC are the member Safety Councils.  Our goal is to facilitate, for our member councils, our common goals and objectives. Our members provide services to the contract worker, the individual contractor and our industrial facilities all across the nation. As the organization serves the member councils it is paramount that we build on the strengths of the organization; Quality, credibility, training expertise, shared solutions and the common goal of being the go-to resource for enhancing the safety of our contractor workforce.

The President of any organization can only be successful to the extent he or she understands the needs of the organization and gains the input and support of the members.  To achieve that end, I will continue my policy of working closely with the ARSC Executive Committee to identify opportunities and issues; develop solutions, provide guidance for the organization and keep the needs of ARSC foremost in our thinking. ARSC is the single largest organization devoted to supporting the Safety Training needs of the contractor workforce and it continues to grow. From our founding in 1997 with fifteen members, we have grown to twenty-four members in 2008 serving industry in fifteen states.

My goals for 2008; to enhance the positive image of ARSC, provide support for utilization of the technical opportunities that are before us and strive to build on the positive history we have with our industrial facilities and contractors.  The organization has committed to enhance our Core Program – BASIC ORIENTATION PLUS® – such that it has a greater focus on training and utilizes state of the art student interaction with the training.  In line with that goal we are also going to revise the annual Computer Based Refresher program, for the Enhanced Basic, such that we can focus on current issues and prime concerns related to the training modules.  Our goal is to roll out the Enhanced Basic by the end of 2008.

I look forward to the challenges and opportunities 2008 will provide. We have grown in size geographically and in the number of workers, we impact.  Growth, while desirable, must be tempered to assure our core values are not diminished. We are involved with addressing the security issues our industry faces, developing solutions for the needs of a growing Hispanic workforce, expansion of our reciprocal training products and as mentioned, providing a significant upgrade to our core program BASIC ORIENTATION PLUS®.  Our member organizations have become more diversified in the services they provide and have expanded the areas and types of industry they serve.  Our success is the result of our member organizations involvement and commitment.

I again offer the challenge to each member council to be involved with their Association and to use team building as a solution to meeting the needs of the future.

R.J. McCorquodale
